Hasn't been in the news for a while, but off the coast of Dubai, some big money people put together a property investment where they engineered small private artificial islands as homes or vacation properties for the extremely rich. The only way to get on or off was boat or helicopter. Last time I heard anything about it, there were problems with the islands not being stable.

Premise that was sold was that people could buy their own island. No idea if they were supposed to be big enough to handle a mansion or a fishing shack.
