I have a question about pedophilia. Epstein is accused of abusing “underage” girls “as young as 14”.

I though pedophilia only referred to sex with pre-pubescent children.

Statutory rape used to refer to girls under 16-18-ish depending on a state’s “age of consent”.

So, is sex with young teenage girls (who are sexually mature) pedophilia?

Sex with teenagers (post-pubescent) is “ephebophilia” if I remember the word definition aright.

Psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children

Ephebophilia is the primary sexual interest in mid-to-late adolescents, generally ages 15 to 19. The term was originally used in the late 19th to mid 20th century.

Currently, pedophilia seems to be commonly used for sexual acts with children through young teens. And who knows how young Epstain’s victims were.

Of course you’re correct, but let’s give this story some time.

Either those legal definitions will change, or the story will change. Very confusing, and reporters are stupid. Courts will be doing some major clarifying for us.

Same thing happening with adjudicating the Church-priest scandals, calling the problem “clericalism”, “abuse” of minors, But, never calling it a Homosexual ring. Or, in some rare but real cases, of pedophilia.
