He was appointed by Donald Trump, who personally interviewed him to take the place of Trump-fired Preet Bharara, who had refused to resign. Sessions had requested that the vast majority of the US Attorneys resign.
After his appointment, he would have been over the raids on Michael Cohen, Trumps former attorney.
Tuesday, several news outlets reported that sources said Deputy U.S. Attorney General Rod Rosenstein signed off on both Bermans recusal from the investigation and the warrants for the Michael Cohen searches .
Five months after he was appointed, AG Jeff Sessions appointed him to be the interim chief, until he could be confirmed by the Senate. No date for confirmation has been set, as of the time of the article.
Guess who Bermans law partner is???
RUDY GULIANI!
One of the things Berman did early in his tenure was to attend the
Senate Intelligence Committee where FBI Director James Comey testified June 8, 2017. Comey said that President Donald Trump pressured him to drop the FBIs investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and demanded Comeys loyalty during the one-on-one meetings he had with president.
One of the credits to Bermans career, is that he was an Iran-Contra prosecuter. His expertise is in:
complex criminal prosecutions, including tax, securities and computer hacking violations. Berman was an Associate Counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Iran-Contra, where he successfully prosecuted a former CIA employee for tax fraud.
Bermans Background:
Berman clerked for Judge Leonard Garth of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Berman received his B.A., magna cum laude, from University of Pennsylvania and his B.A., beta gamma sigma, from the Wharton School. And Berman received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he was Note Editor of the Stanford Law Review.
The article points out that the US Attorneys in the SDNY office are considered to have Top-Dog status. According to Nicholas Lehman,
a gig working for a U.S. Attorney is a prestigious job for lawyers, but working for the Southern District of New York whose sweeping jurisdiction includes Manhattan, the Bronx, and the burbs just north, has had a special, top-dog status ever since President Theodore Roosevelt appointed Henry Stimson, later Secretary of State and, three times, Secretary of War, to the post. Lemann wrote the offices nickname is the Sovereign District of New York.
And:
Lemann wrote the creme de la creme get posts at the SDNY and often went to the best law schools, were elected to law reviews, and clerked for federal judges.
ALUMS INCLUDE RUDY GIULIANI AND JIM COMEY.
[Texokie note: So Berman heard Comey up front and personal say very unbecoming things about the POTUS, whom he [Berman] had supported. There is a lot of questioning about the appointment of Comeys daughter to the Epstein case team on the Q thread right now. It would seem that Berman is now in position to be the one appointing that team. I leave it to my fellow FReeQs to sort out the question of if Berman was pressured into appointing a DS cuckoo into the White Hat nest or if Comeys daughter actually is a White Hat .... and Comey also held the same seat as both Rudy and Berman which would make us have to ask:
Is Comey, if not a total White Hat, is the gray color of his hat light enough to have caused his daughter to be a White Hat?
It is all very pop-corn consumption inducing!]
Comey’s daughter can’t be whitehat. Fruit of the poisonous tree. Like Chelsea Clinton. Just no way.
I have not read any reliable source that daughter Comey is in charge of or even involved in the Epstein case.
All stems from one statement by CNN. There are 220 prosecutors in the SDNY office.
Awesome dig texokie.
