Years ago, I went to Anthrocon to meet some internet friends. The con itself was about the same as any other fandom convention, but the fursuiters were considered supremely weird even by furry standards. In a nutshell, most suiters hate themselves for a wide variety of reasons and want to BE cartoon animals rather than real life humans. So that raised some red flags in my mind, for sure.
