When heavyweights collide, the impact is always colossal.
First, there's the anticipation, and for feverish excitement, no match at this Women's World Cup has yet to compare to Friday's quarterfinal clash between the US and France.
There is a reason why ticket prices have gone in the same direction as the mercury during this week's European heat wave.
This is the world's top-ranked team going head-to-head against the fourth best team in the world. The defending champion versus the host. An irresistible attack against an uncompromising defense. It is "Le Grand Match." It is a match that is helping propel women's football even further into the sporting mainstream.

Actually, it’s Allez les Bleues !
"The flag was presented to us by four WWII veterans from the cemetery in Normandy in France back in January. We wanted something special to carry with us on this journey and we were fortunate to meet these four incredible veterans," Dell says. "And we walked through the cemetery with them as they were telling us their stories. the flag came down at 4 p.m. and the veterans presented it to the team. So, it's very dear to our heart. and I think it's a really cool culmination is starting in France, flying over American piece of land in France, us traveling with it on our journey and leading us to this tournament and then to a degree the flag coming home to carry us through this World Cup. It's very near to our hearts and means a lot to us."
Berlin_Freeper, I hope you are right, but they have some work to do first. If they don’t start delivering some “bite” in the midfield and putting opponents on the ground and at risk of injury, they will be pushed off the field with no resistance from the ref’s.
We are the most talented and want to play the “beautiful game,” but Pele, Beckham, and Messi are backed up with enforcers. Of course, Dempsey, Clint Mathis, and Brian McBride were their own tough guys, with or without enforcers. But Alex Morgan, needs some “backup.”
Did the old folks home not have applesauce today?
That Rapinoe b*tch won’t be wrapped in the flag...She’ll burn it if anything...
IMO the passes need to be more realistic. Too many last game were way out ahead of Morgan who needs to be onsides.
That nit wit figured out the only way in hell I would ever root against my own country.
Maybe, just maybe the US women’s soccer team will suffer the same curse as LeBron James, Stephen Curry when they said before game 3 (2018) of the NBA Championship that “theyre not going to White House if they win...And then they lost...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
The only flag this “woman’s” team will wrap itself in is the rainbow flag.
It won’t kneel for that.
Go France!!!
Yes, some girls do play those other sports, but girls in general are not particularly attracted to them. For some reason soccer is simpatico with female sensibilities.
You are correct, but maybe not. Are they really females? :)
I don’t root for the US men’s basketball team anymore for the same reason.
Rooting for France. Sick of anti-American idiots.
Has any player taken a knee? I doubt it.
GO FRANCE!!
The US Women’s team deserves to lose for their disgraceful behavior.
“It is a match that is helping propel women’s football even further into the sporting mainstream.”
They lose to 15 year old boys. For me, it’s unwatchable - even before they start mouthing off.
Thanks to RapinHOE, I’m cheering for France.
I have a conservative friend who refers to that as “the Haman effect”, as in what happened to the Persian Haman in the Book of Esther.
Kind of funny that celebrities and sports figures who say something bad about our President Trump seem to have bad things happen to them, ain’t it?
