One of my many favorites:
I don’t know about other cities in California but my youngest started school in 1969. All the schools were community schools and the kids ALL walked to school unless the only school was not within walking distance. When we lived on the East side of San Jose there were blacks living there and they all went to the same school. When we moved to the West San Jose (Silicon valley) I don’t recall any blacks living there. This is the way it was all the years we were there when we left in 1979.
