Life of Augustine to my attention. I just read it and found that Augustine practiced Pence's Rule:
"...if some women asked to see or greet them, they never came to him except with some of the clerics as witnesses, and he never spoke to them alone, even if it was a matter of secrecy." (from chapter 26)

Nice. We're about to republish Paulinus's Life of Saint Ambrose which is also a great read. Those were truly fascinating times.
