Wouldn't these more expensive cars have more features and so have more things that go wrong during the first 90 days? A car without a sun-roof is unlikely to be marked down because the sun-roof leaks.

One theory about Lexus’ high ratings is that the old people who buy them just don’t mess with their quirky electronic features so they have no reason to complain.
Note that compared to years ago, the most troublesome brands like Jaguar/Rover and any FCA brand can still be very trouble-free. Grading on a curve can be a bit misleading.
