Why some men seem to be so threatened by a U.S. women's team that does so much better than its men's counterpart is beyond me.

No. I just wonder why so many people who will cheer for the U.S. women in any other international competition, such as the Olympics, suddenly go Neanderthal when it comes to women’s soccer. From the tone of some of the grousing, at least some of them can’t seem to stand the idea of a U.S. women’s team consistently outperforming the U.S. men’s team. If you don’t like soccer, fine. There are a lot of sports I don’t care about, but I’ll still say hurrah if a U.S. athlete or team does well.

The US team should have shared their “excess” goals with the losing team so there would have been an equitable tie. Then the two teams should have held hands, sang kumbaya and everyone been given a medal.

Give it a couple decades or so, the world will catch up to USNWT.

Much of the world already has. There is considerable parity in women's soccer internationally. It ain't rocket science. You need strong developmental programs at the youth level. You need good support for strong players through the high school and college years. Then you need a strong domestic professional league so that the top athletes don't fall off a cliff when they graduate college. All of these things take organizational commitment from the national soccer federation, and they take money. A lot of the world is already there.

The women’s team played disciplined hockey which frustrated my team. Kids spent the game chasing after the women. On the offensive side of the puck, the kids were too busy trying to skate the puck up the ice alone rather than moving the puck. They were schooled by the women on how teamwork and discipline beats selfish hockey.

Wonderful lesson. In life. And on the ice. 8<)
