FULL TITLE: Five people are charged with murdering a mentally disabled woman, 19, after they 'invited her on a hike, duct taped her feet together, shot her in the head and threw her in a river'

Five people have been arrested in the killing of a mentally disabled 19-year-old woman who they say was duct taped, shot in the back of the head and tossed into a river after being invited on a hike by a friend.

Denali Brehmer, 18, is accused of murdering her best friend Cynthia Hoffman, 19, on June 2, with help from Caleb Leyland, 19, 16-year-old Kayden McIntosh, and two unnamed teens.

'I know I did something wrong and I know I could have probably done something different if I was able to and I don't want my daughter knowing that her mom grew up a killer because I don't see myself as one,' said Brehmer at the arraignment on Saturday, according to KTUU.

Police say that she and the other four suspects schemed together to murder Hoffman and then cover their tracks.

The group invited Hoffman to join them on a hike through the popular Thunderbird Falls trail, in the Chugiak area, northeast of Anchorage.

t was there the 19-year-old, who only had the mental age of a seventh grader, was shot dead, according to police.

Investigators found Hoffman's body two days later. Her feet were still bound by duct tape.

The suspects initially tried to throw off suspicion by using Hoffman's cellphone to text her family so it appeared she was still alive and had gone to another location, investigators said. Then they drove to Lions Park in northeast Anchorage and burned Hoffman's belongings.

“But nitrogen? Since nitrogen is a major component of the air we breathe, we are insensitive to it. What this unit does is begin replacing oxygen with nitrogen. The ‘user’ breathes normally, senses nothing until the brain shuts down from lack of oxygen.”

I’ve been mildly “narced” while scuba diving at 100’+. It’s actually a nice buzz.

The term is “developmentally disabled”.

A 19 year old can go to work. A seventh grader, not so much. They can, but are very limited in what they do.

She doesn't want her (illegitimate?) child to grow up thinking mommie's a murderer. But this is how she treated her "best friend".

I prefer a 9mm bullet to the head. No development fees, can be easily administered anywhere. If it hurts, so much the better.

I read somewhere that there are people who seem like normal people with jobs, houses and the whole nine, that do thrill killings of homeless people.

So they work in an office maybe, then at night they go out and kill a homeless person.

For fun.

Godless.

“That was the oxygen saying, “So long.””

I remember reading Caustou’s book about experiencing with nitrogen narcosis. He had a natural resistance and had another diver down around 200’. Thought the guy was OK and then the guy took his regulator out of his mouth and offered it to a passing fish. He got him up fast!

All of this fiendish gang should be shot and left for predators to clean up. There is no excuse, no justification, no rational reason for what they did.

Look at the faces - the child who was killed looks kind - the killers look ugly and mean.

This was evil... it wasn’t because they were bored.

Sounds good. But pain for some crimes is preferred. Can we add a pain module for the really wicked?

When I used to work on a dive boat, i had a tourist bite the rubber off his regulator and his octopus. I offered him mine and he bit that off too. Took him straight back to the surface slowly and held on tight to my octo carefully passing back to him. Fat dude puked his guts out at the surface. No danger of sickness less then 30 feet down.
