I had thought that the rubber on the tires keep the bike from being grounded, making a lightning strike unlikely while in motion.

Only in Florida...! LMAO.

OK I don’t know anything about electrical engineering but wouldn’t the rubber tires prevent such a thing from happening?

Dang! I just came in from riding my Gold Wing only to see this story.
Glad I wasn't wearing a helmet!

I was hit by a (small) tornado in Floridah...right after turn north on State Road 7 at Oakland Park Blvd. Jumped off the bike just as it went into a spin and sheared off the mirror, left turn signal, and gear shift lever. Two Rastafarians picked me and the bike off the street, planted me back on it and i rode the ten miles home in driving rain (and hail) without leaving second gear.
I went back to the intersection the next day and tried to find the Rastamen to thank them, but nobody knew who they were.
But I have NEVER been hit by lightening.
BTW, I still ride the same bike, 20 years later.

Golly, that could diminish the reputation of motorcycles for safe riding.
