Here in the Philippines, you can buy a phone for 20 dollars (often used) and a phone card for 10 dollars, and then you buy a “load” for as little as 50 cents, which gives you the ability to text dozens of times.
Even our maids, the “tricycle” drivers and farmers own a cellphone.
but I suspect your point is that these are not “poor” people, and you would be right.
I suspect many in these immigrant caravans are ambitious lower middle class people who are looking for jobs, and there are gangs and “SJW” types who essentially are recruiting them.
The problem? It is done outside the law, meaning the illegal immigrants can be exploited, and the gangs can use them to give cover for criminals and drug smuggling.
