Baseball legend Pete Rose took a shot at his former teammate and Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench on Thursday during an appearance on The Brian Kilmeade Show.
Rose fired back after Bench refused to budge from his view that the former Cincinnati Reds star should be excluded from the Baseball Hall of Fame for gambling on the sport in 1989.
It don't bother me but you know Johnny Bench is one guy who should thank God I was born, Rose told host Brian Kilmeade. Because he never would have made the Hall of Fame if I wasn't born.
Kilmeade asked Rose to elaborate.
Because I'm the guy he knocked in a thousand times. You got you've got guys in front of you guys right behind you and you got to be responsible for everybody else involved, Rose said, adding that Bench couldnt understand why he wasnt as loved as Rose was in Cincinnati.

No hes mad cause Bench publicly opposes his induction into the Hall of Fame
Whats your proof on the little girls....second hand allegations from a discredited memorabilia dealer
Bullshit....this thread is thick with it
Dangus is obviously king of the Pete Rose haters
Must be a Cardinals fan
School lord dangus
Yes indeed, and what’s all this nonsense about Fosse? A play at home with the catcher blocking the plate, *AND* Pete Rose barreling home? I don’t care if it was an All Star game, or a sandlot game, Rose played at one speed. That wan’t Rose’s fault, nor was it Fosse’s fault, it was baseball! I guess I learned the game differently.
“Pete Rose was one of the best hitters in the history of baseball, so he was on base a lot. “
I’m sorry, but I did not write that I just look through one or two of my texts on this thread and that quick comes from somewhere else and I think you’re talking to the wrong personin
What are you talking about? I don’t even know you.
It’s not about how much ball I played.
It’s about a helluva player getting hooked on gambling and breaking a cardinal rule of baseball by betting on his team as the manager of that team.
Then instead of accepting that fact he whines about it for years because of his over inflated ego.
Ty Cobb's Lifetime batting average would have been over 370 if he hadn't played his final season with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics where he he hit only 323.
Yet you wish he had played two more seasons? How far would his lifetime batting average have been pulled down then?
As I said, why the rabid antagonism toward Pete Rose here?
He bet ON his team.
That’s very different from betting against his team and throwing games.
Agreed, it's no different than an incentive package, say for a pitcher to win 10, 15 20 games etc. You get paid to win and even more when you win more.
Sorry I can’t agree!
You play by the rules or you don’t play!
That’s awesome... I can’t imagine what that had to have been like for those two.. if they were indeed around the same age and friends growing up... to ride that wave all the way to the majors together?
Just wow.
I remember Bench singing Jim Croce songs on a TV variety show (looked it up, Bobby Goldsboro's show). No matter how great a player he was, some things can't be forgiven.
Is there an exception in the rules for that for the team manager?
some rules are non sensical.
He doesnt deserve the scorn many Freepers relish reaping
Thats a characteristic of this jolly joint
The Scold
That was made Rose special his zeal for the game......incredible and fun to watch
