Full title:

Cat sparks $7,500 rescue mission after getting stuck on bridge six days; mission fails, pet gets bored and wanders home

Hatty, 5, became trapped on the Royal Albert Bridge, which connects Plymouth and Saltash, on Friday, and firefighters spent around five hours trying to get her down in an ordeal costing $7,500.

The train system which operates the bridge even planned to close the tracks to rescue her, while the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was also present.

But when firefighters had decided to give up for the day, vowing to return Thursday, the cat, who had been missing for two weeks before turning up on the bridge, returned home on Wednesday night, according to the Plymouth Herald.

Kirsty Howden, Hatty’s owner, said the cat walked into the garden of her home in Saltash.

She said the cat had just “strolled past fire and media crews”. ...”

“She is a bit skinny and smelly, very vocal and has now headed upstairs and put herself to bed.”

Using tax dollars to save cats is only acceptable in Pleasantville.

Fire fighters who save cats work shifts and are paid a salary, not by the job.

Had they not been called out to save the cat, they would have been in the firehouse polishing their trucks........getting paid for doing the same........LOL!

What about using tax $ to save tweakers, criminals and other assorted losers, wasters and ne’er-do-wells?

They are human beings, made in the image of God. And we are all sinners.

Well, there is that. And I tend to agree regarding their putting a price on this in the way they did.

We are all sinners doesn’t have anything to do with the situation at hand. And cruelty to animals is a sin, btw. Kindness to animals is a virtue.

Heh... years ago, in some major US city (I forget that detail, just humor me) the new fire chief announced that the FD would no longer conduct cat rescues, stating that one never sees cat skeletons in trees. As part of his public relations campaign, he went on some fire calls and practices, and within weeks of his earlier announcement, while scaling a ladder that was partially within a tree, he noticed a cat skeleton. :^)

I don’t partiularly like cats, but a live in GF got one and it went up in a huge tree next to my condo. It was making a racket and a crowd gathered. My GF was going crazy.

I was able to get up in the tree off of a 3rd floor balcony and tried to get near the yowling cat. I damn near killed myself when a branch broke, but I was able to catch hold of another branch as i fell.

As I said a prayer for me and a curse for the cat, it got bored and wandered down the tree, leaving me to find a way down.
