Really? It must take ten, twenty, fifty times longer to park backwards then they can save by parking forwards! Are they thinking they might just rob a bank while they’re parked in front of my (bank-free) building?
For some people, it is easier to back into a space with two parked cars beside them then backing out into traffic.
This is most likely the main answer to why park backwards.
It’s easier to get out without having to back up and maneuver out first.
Germany used to have regular sized parking spaces for men, and extra wide spaces for women. I don’t know it they still do.
Also, I parked cars, as a valet, for years. I actually feel more comfortable parking backwards and there are less accidents when pulling out of a parking spot this way.
