I did not know that about Marx.

Thank you.

I must say that G&S in Welch is unintellible.

Not enough vowels.

Groucho was SO much of a rabid Savoyard ( as am I ), that he yearned to do KoKo, in The Mikado all of his life and finally did it, on T.V. when I was a kiddo. He STUNK!

My parents did G&S semi-professionally, so I grew up back stage, at rehearsals, and knowing every note, word, comedy bit, and history.

All of the Marx Brothers' shows and movies are based on G&S; including the characters.

The late 1930s Brit play, "ME AND MY GIRL" is not only G&Sian, but one entire scene is stolen from RUDDYGORE! And the first time I saw it, in London, I gasped, laughed, and damned near literally fell out of my seat.

I could see any G&S operetta, sung in ANY language, and it wouldn't matter, no it really wouldn't matter, matter, matter ( forgive the Gilbertian quote; couldn't help myself. LOL ), because I would hear it in English in my head. But I know what you mean. :-)

I also LOVE Broadway musicals and know the history of that too. :-)
