And somebody who claims to have 22 yrs experience in this kind of stuff weighs in and makes the case nothing untowards is going on here. Could be media selling this as a dick move by NY State authorities are wrong.

Please--he's going to Rikers because he's being sent from federal custody to the custody of NY State to face the charges brought against him by the Manhattan DA's office. After those charges are resolved, he'll go back into federal custody. This is NOT a story. Happens EVERY DAY

OK this helps clear it up. As long as NY authorities fully intend to pursue their own charges, this is the established procedure. Manafort's camp of course sells this as a nefarious payback thing.

This is done to protect his trial rights -- like the right to be close and available to meet with his attorney for purposes of facilitating the assistance of counsel in his state case. If the Bur. of Prisons sent him to Texas, that would compromise his trial rights in New York.
