If the battle of Winterfell disappointed by failing to provide an adequate death list, one may well assume the relentless bloodshed that underpinned Sunday evening’s episode of Game of Thrones might appease its increasingly hard to please fan-base. But despite the demise of several key players, viewers were once again left to express their frustration, confusion and anger over what many regarded as an underwhelming penultimate instalment in the long-running fantasy drama.

Dany realized that King’s Landing was the heart of the “deep state”. It could never be saved, no matter how many Varus and Littlefingers she killed. Dany knows she herself has to die along with her dragon (the old world must pass) and her death will pave the way for a new world. I cannot wait for a prequel. It will write itself.
I don't think GRRM knew how to end the story, hence the unfinished state of the saga in book form. Allegedly, the ending conforms to where he wanted to take the story. However, I do not think he or the show-runners knew how to make GRRM's bare outline work.
For example, GRRM probably told them that the second dragon is supposed to die. But how does one kill a dragon? GRRM probably said "I am still trying to work that out". The show-runners came up with an impossibly accurate version of the Roman Scorpion weapon which knocked Rhaeghal out of the sky. These weapons went on to destroy Daenerys's fleet (in order to have the plot device of Missandei's capture).
So, we go into last night's episode expecting some sort of death for Drogon from all those Scorpions that lined the walls of King's Landing Euron's ships. However, the weapons became utterly useless last night, as Drogon torched every single one of them without getting scratched.
I assume GRRM had planned for Daenerys to go mad all along. Two episodes ago, Daenerys selflessly flew to Jon Snow's rescue on Drogon while almost getting herself and Drogon killed. Now she is stark raving mad. I guess they wanted us to wonder if she was the chosen one, and they felt that the only way to do so was to make her go mad in the space of an episode and a half.
To me the ending is rushed and not terribly well thought out.
Martin has finished his book. Martin had given them an outline and they following what Martin had written.
Martin was heavily involved with the storyline.
Everyone bitching about the past two episodes will be eagerly tuned in to watch the last episode this Sunday to see if they can be even more disappointed.
I hope the twist is Jon telling Drogo, “Dracarys” and the dragon makes Dani toast.

I agree. If we've learned anything about GOT, it's that if a death doesn't happen onscreen, we can't rely on it. It's not an ironclad rule; Stannis was indeed killed though we never saw his actual death. The main reason for thinking Cersei really is dead is that it's hard (basically impossible with one episode to go) to see how she can still contend for the throne; her troops and allies are all dead, and it's just her and Jamie. The main reason that she may be alive, however, is that several characters -- Tyrion, Jamie, and Arya in particular -- have considerable plot rationales for doing the deed. It seems a waste of a lot of plot development to have falling masonry finish her off.
I do think Arya is now on a different track. The Hound rather forcefully presented her with a moment of decision. She walked away from the Red Keep rather than continuing on her quest for revenge. She chose life. She then was confronted by the mass suffering of innocents in King's Landing, and she appeared to be emotionally affected, which is an important evolution for the stone-cold assassin. She then tries to save others at risk to herself, which is something she hasn't done since season 1. Arya has been a PTSD casualty ever since she saw Ned being beheaded in season 1. If there is a happy ending anywhere in GOT, it might well be Arya making a solid recovery and ending as an emotionally functional human being, albeit one with remarkable assassin skills.
If Arya survives episode 8, somebody should grab a still from her final scene with the Hound and add a "Choose Life" caption. For all I know, Maisy Williams' politics are standard entertainment industry leftism, but she's a big enough girl to cope with the double entendre.
If anything, they’ve shown she had this tendency for a while. Those who did not see it did not want to see it.
- why was introducing wholesale slaughter in Mereen and Astapur a good idea? It killed a lot of people. Did it solve anything?
- Did everybody forget she’s been wanting to sack and burn King’s Landing since she got to Westeros and it was only Tyrion and her other advisors who were restraining her?
- remember when she burned the Tarley’s AFTER they had surrendered? Why was that necessary?
Clearly some viewers just wanted to hero worship. They wanted a flawless savior. Well guess what. You’re in the same position as the Germans in 1939. It turns out your savior is a bloodthirsty megalomaniac and it’s too late to remove her. Now you’re stuck.
If anything, I thought it a great twist to the story and one that had been set up for quite a while.
An Arya-Hotpie ending would be low comedy, so it’s probably parody material sometime down the road. But we do know that Arya has impressive baking skills, so anything’s possible.
She has an eye for detail.
And she’s good with knives. Invaluable in the kitchen.
I like how the show is ending but then again I am not a feminist. It seems the lesbians are upset Brienne of Tarth and Arya are not gay and the Queen going insane is too much of a disappointment for feminists.

If she had done this at Winterfell, she would have put an end to the night king, herself.
Tyrion was asking for his brother. He was wanting Davos to smuggle Jaimie out before Danerys had her dragon kill him. That is why Jaimie was on the beach, where he ran into Euron.
