My folks called our fridge the ‘icebox’.
I always got a kick out of that, once I learned what ice boxes actually were.
Always smile when I see the ice man deliver the YUGE block of ice, in old movies and shows (Honeymooners, etc.).
What a job! Imagine if your truck broke down....there goes your inventory....into a puddle of water.
My mom’s folks had ranches up in Idaho, lights either kerosene or generator lite so they all had ice boxes.
Spent a lot of time with them in my youth.
Until I was age eight we had an “ice box”. I remember riding with my dad to the “ice house” to buy another block of ice about every two days. He would carry it to the car with ice tongs. To this day I still call convenience stores an ice house and I still have the tongs my dad used. The memories!
When my dad got to where he couldn’t remember somebody’s name, he’d call them “ice box”. So cute.
