This is exactly my question. How long would this have taken? Did they take some kind of boat/canoe down the coast?

That is the theory that is shaking up the old view of traveling by foot. There appears to be very old evidence of human presence from southern South America. Even today, with modern gear, traveling by foot from Panama into South America is not an easy feat. Large numbers with women and children might well be next to impossible.

The real question is how did ancient men get through the deserts of the N.American SW, and even harder, the jungles of Central America? I wonder if they didn’t use boats, traveling along the coast?
