This might have been an appropriate use of the emergency alert system. It couldn’t have hurt to broadcast a message warning that there was a credible, violent and imminent but non-specific threat against Jews. Synagogue attendees, including the armed Homeland Security guy who shot the perp, would have been forewarned.
