My father’s best friend was in a Japanese PW camp in the Philippines. He was a doctor but still almost starved to death. My sister and I loved him more than any other of my parents’ friends—he had been there, he was deep, he had seen it. I’ll never ever forget Johnny.

A guy built a drone type vehicle using a go-cart frame. It’s a one seater and there’s a video of him flying it around with him in it. I WANT ONE! https://www.tomsguide.com/us/jetson-aero-flying-go-kart,news-29286.html
Discovered FR just after the hanging chad’s.
I’m younger than the state of Alaska and Hawaii.
My uncle survive the Bataan Death March.
He came home and father 10 children.
Johnny was not on the death march but somehow ended up in the camp in the Philippines. He had to order the prisoners to eat the beans they were served because he knew it was the only nearly nourishing protein they were getting.
He was married before he served but never had any children, either before or after.
Good on your uncle!
I also had an uncle who served. He married a war widow and they had twin girls. He was not in a POW camp, though. Never told us any stories. My father worked in an aircraft plant and got a few medals for improving the production time.
My aunts gave my mother their shoe coupons because our feet were still growing. A lot of things were scarce because of going overseas to the troops.
My father was one of twelve children. Somewhere there’s a photo of all the boys in little World War I uniforms.
Correction that uncle and aunt had eight kids, my other aunt and uncle had 10. I get them mixed up sometimes.
Or back strap...and then we can talk.
June 1958 - we only had 48 states.
When you factor in California, New York, and Illinois, we now have 47
