The Chinese government has drawn wide international condemnation for its harsh crackdown on ethnic Muslims …Really, Slimes? Are the Chinese suddenly “ethnic communists” as well?
No it is all about totalitarian control.
Could just as easily happen to anyone not just Uighurs. Like any foreigner that enters China.
But to the NYT it's always racism, when it's not Russia.

The crackdown is being done by socialist “people of color”, and not by evil white capitalists. Consequently, it is of no interest to the Left or even a majority of Muslims, who probably consider the Uighurs to be the wrong kind of Muslims anyway, and therefore subject to extermination.
As for the Islamic ethnic Chinese, a little quiet “street justice” by their non-Islamic neighbors, which would not be closely monitored by the official channels, would be the “management” of the potential problem.

Times and other big media rarely do articles about Chinese communist repression of Christians, Buddhists, pro-democracy groups etc...

We do the same thing here. Pic on drivers license combined with license plate readers and traffic cameras. Phone calls, internet activity, all tied together.
I’m surprised the Chinese are only doing it to the highest. I guess they don’t have enough computer power to track everyone there.
Racism? For the umpteenth time, Islam is NOT a race. And frankly, watching your Muslims is a GOOD idea. I've long (since about 9/12/2001) advocated deporting all non-citizen Muslims and keeping surveillance on all citizen Muslims.
