Cursive writing has fallen away from the curriculum in a lot of Texas schools in recent years, but the writing style is making a comeback. Austin ISD does not teach cursive to its general student body, but the district says that will change in the 2019-2020 school year, as it will for schools all over the state. The shift is due to updates to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, or TEKS, for language arts. The State Board of Education changed the requirements in 2017, and they go into effect next school year. Starting this fall, students will be required to know how to write legibly in cursive by 5th grade. Kids will start learning cursive letters in 2nd grade. But even the districts that cut cursive classes have kept teaching it to students with dyslexia. Manor ISD's dyslexia coordinator says it stimulates brain function, helps with memory, and allows students to focus on whole words instead of individual letters.

That was my other business venture.
As an elective. Writing in cursive is about as useful as learning the Morse Code.
My kids are learning cursive but they go to a Catholic school, not the terrorist creating and leftist indoctrination centers called public school.

People need to be able to function in situations where they dont have electricity or internet access.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When is the last time you had no electricity or internet access?
I highly doubt the idea of writing 3-4 pages in cursive appealed to you at that time.
Look. Learning cursive is fine. As an elective. If that interests you. Kids need to learn other things first.
Spanish script is basically the same as English script, because both use the roman alphabet.
With Russian script . . . now there’s a beauty! All sorts of nifty things in that.
Of course, if you were being facetious or sarcastic, then never mind.
If these kids dont know cursive writing how in the hell do they have a signature!!! GIVE ME A DAMN BREAK!!!
Go to New Hampshire. The environ-MENTAL-ists up there have pretty much ensured routine power outages during the wintertime.
Interesting.
I would think that would mobilize voters quite effectively.
Everybody loves green stuff until it costs more or becomes painfully unavailable.
My dad had very good cursive writing; Mine is an amalgamation of cursive and print that no one can read.
I had to modify that somewhat on Parris Island in 1989, because the armoror didn't like my signature. Luckily, my Senior Drill Instructor made him like it.
Well I was serious about not not knowing what Spanish cursive looked like. But there was a joke about illegals in their too.
Thanks
It is totally unreasonable to expect public schools to teach cursive.
Out of the annual Texas budget of $130 Billion, only between $25 Billion and $30 Billion goes to public schools.
This is a measly less-than-half of the budget of Texas public schools (i.e. $60-something Billion per year). The rest is obtained from federal tax dollars ($6 Billion) and local taxes ($30 Billion).
If Texas Public Schools are forced to divert these limited funds (around $13000 per student per year) to teach cursive, it will mean other areas—such as gender inclusivity and sensitivity training—will have inadequate funds.
This is an outrage!
Maybe a judge can put a stop to this. It’s almost certainly racist and discriminatory because minorities will be hurt the most. Someone call Southern Poverty Law Center and the ACLU. It’s for the children!
Illinois is taking the doors off the restroom stalls. If Texas did the same, that’d allow for money for cursive writing. It’d also serve for gender fluidity.
Such nonsense. Why do you think cursive was invented? People who use cursive can write more than 50 times faster than writing in block letters. The speed of cursive also more closely matches the speed of thought. You can also write continuously for longer periods of time. It is hard to imagine anyone being functional in business without the skill of cursive handwriting.
They aren’t teaching them how to do math without calculators either.
Come back and tell me about it after the big EMP attack.
On second thought, I guess you won’t be able to.
Allow me to correct...
Such nonsense. Why do you think KEYBOARDS WERE invented? People who use KEYBOARDS can write more than 50 times faster than writing in CURSIVE. The speed of KEYBOARDING also more closely matches the speed of thought. You can also write continuously for longer periods of time. It is hard to imagine anyone being functional in business without the skill of KEYBOARDING.
