That doesn't sound like a good thing. Why would prosecutors drop those charges if there is evidence for them?
That should mean they'll go to the Northern District of New York (NDNY) for consideration to prosecute.
I'm wondering why the case would be moved for that reason. I guess I'll read the whole article and find out! Thanks.
Defendants other that Raniere were moving to sever their trials from his on the grounds that the child exploitation charges would prejudice jurors, and the fact that the alleged crimes did not occur in the jurisdiction of the EDNY (Eastern District of New York).
The crimes happened in the NDNY jurisdiction, so the prosecutors agreed to drop them from this trial and pass them to NDNY. It’s about a slam dunk that NDNY will prosecute. The US Attorney for NDNY is Grant C. Jaquith, a Trump appointee from Jan 2018.
A new trial on those charges in NDNY will no doubt bring in more defendants, allow EDNY prosecutors to pass evidence of other crimes committed to NDNY, and get the new case ever closer to the political center of Albany.
Loads of financial shenanigans in and around Albany over the past 20 years by the NXIVM cult.
I talked a little bit about this in one of my updates yesterday, in case you want some more detail.
