"it is only people with a tapeworm infection in the intestine who can spread the potentially life-threatening eggs when proper hygiene is lacking or ignored" So wherefrom did the kid get the tapeworms in the first place?
India isn't really a place known for good hygiene.
You don’t want to know how the kid got the tapeworm in the first place.
The kid lives in India. A very large sh!£hole. It probably happens a lot over there. This one just happened to cause a crisis while in a hospital, so it got noticed and reported. Out in the hinterlands it’s just another death among millions each year. IMHO.
For the most part, tapeworms/eggs have to be ingested.
I watched a show years ago about a Jewish teenager in Florida who got neurocysticercosis, parasitic infestation from larvae from a pork tapeworm. As the family didn’t eat pork, it was perplexing until it was discovered that he got it from an illegal maid/cook they had from Central America who didn’t wash her hands properly after handling pork.
By that time she left and no one knew where she went.
Someone cooked with unclean water. He ate under-cooked pork. (That’s a common cause of these types of infections in Mexico and why it is the cause of most cases of epilepsy there.)
