Had an older friend (passed on for several years) who was a dowser. He tried teaching it to me but I just didn’t have the knack. He however could find water like nobody’s business.

Yep... A lot of the oldtimers claimed to have this ability. There were several as I was growing up who claimed to find Gold this way. Always thought it was strange considering Gold is non-ferrous and not magnetic. But then metal detectors still work to read Gold...
