Activists say that in the years since the protests, they have been targeted in dangerous ways.
“Something is happening,” said Cori Bush, a frequent leader of the Ferguson protests. “I’ve been vocal about the things that I’ve experienced and still experience — the harassment, the intimidation, the death threats, the death attempts.”
Bush said her car has been run off the road, her home has been vandalized, and in 2014 someone shot a bullet into her car, narrowly missing her daughter, who was 13 at the time.
She suspects white supremacists or police sympathizers. Living under constant threat is exhausting, she said, but she won’t give in.
“They shut us up and they win,” Bush said.
thugin ain't easy...St. Louis and parts of North St Louis county (St. Louis is not in St. Louis County) are dangerous places. Lots of people die violent deaths who had nothing to do with the Ferguson riots/protests. Too many are pursuing the thug life and those people don’t tend to have long lifespans. If you drive on I-70 west towards the airport you’ll see miles of boarded up buildings.
There is a move afoot to have St. Louis City absorb St. Louis County back into itself so that it can have taxpayers again. I have a hard time seeing such a thing pass since most County residents left to escape the rich diversity of St Louis city life.
They were disproportionately violent criminals.

It’s not that involvement in the “Ferguson Protests” per se makes people more likely to die by violence or suicide.
It’s that people living a morbid lifestyle and deficient in positive life skills ad logic were attracted to the Ferguson Protests/Riots. Self-selection is at work here.

Heather Mac Donald writes in her book The War on Cops: How the New Attack on Law and Order Makes Everyone Less Safe that in Chicago, IL, blacks committed 76 percent of all homicides, despite composing 35 percent of the city’s population. Blacks also accounted for 78 percent of all juvenile arrests. Whites, who compose 28 percent of the city’s population, committed 4 percent of its homicides and 3.5 percent of its juvenile arrests. Hispanics, who compose 30 percent of the city’s population, committed 19 percent of its homicides and 18 percent of its juvenile arrests. (Another eye-opening fact from Mac Donald’s research is that only 26 percent of murder cases were solved in Chicago.)
Blacks are 10 percent of the population in Los Angeles, CA, but commit 42 percent of its robberies and 34 percent of its felonies. Whites make up 29 percent of the city’s population, and commit 5 percent of its robberies and 13 percent of its felonies.
In New York City, blacks committed “75 percent of all shootings, 70 percent of all robberies, and 66 percent of all violent crime,” despite only composing 23 percent of the population, said Mac Donald in a Hillsdale speech. Additionally, 2009 Bureau of Justice Statistics numbers show that in 2009, “blacks were charged with 62 percent of robberies, 57 percent of murders and 45 percent of assaults in the 75 biggest counties in the country, despite only comprising roughly 15 percent of the population in these counties.”
