I just hate that folks older than I can run up and down stairs when I shiver in pain just going up one. Damn knee.

Laine Hardy

First up is Laine. Didn't catch his song title. Tell you the truth, I'm barely paying attention.

Finding out tonight's show is 3 hours took all the wind out of my sails.

Katy: If you apply yourself like you've applied yourself for the next five years [you're going to be a big star.]

Luke: So honored and proud to see you here.

Lionel: That was a nasty song, my friend. A nasty song. (that's a compliment)

Madison Vandenburg

Knocking out two of the six solo performances already. At least we're making progress.

She sings "Shallow" from A Star Is Born.

Luke: So exciting is your growth. Next level voice. So amazing to watch. So beautiful to see.

Lionel: You have to know what a gift you have. You are truly on your way.

Katy: Honey, you're shaking because the greatness is coming out of you.

Alejandro Aranda

Seacrest asks Bones to predict the winner.

Bobby Bones: Whoever doesn't put the audience to sleep will win.

He didn't really say that, but it could be true.

And now ... doing his best to make us snore, is Alejandro. His very name is synonymous with narcolepsy.

He sings an original song about Millennial love. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Professor Lionel: It was love at first sound. Captivates your imagination, your soul. You, my friend, are on your journey.

Katy: Everyone was truly listening. So much reverence and respect when you sing. A lot of people are going to adorn you with so many great compliments. [Don't take it for granted]

Luke: I will never forget the first time I met Alejandro. We have been spoiled by you week after week.

Seacrest asks the judges who won the round.

Luke: Madison

Lionel: I'm a sucker for a songwriter. Alejandro is gonna have to get my vote this time around.

Katy: I agree with Lionel. There is something otherworldy and holy about what Alejandro does.

Vomit.

LOL--immediately after this snooze-fest, there's an iPhone commercial that begs us to "stay awake and not close our eyes." Fitting.

Laine Hardy

Already into Round 2. Moving right along.

Which begs the question again, why does this have to be 3 hours?

He sings a song about crawfish pie and gumbo.

Katy: I want you to take me fishing.

Luke: Great song choice. Sticking to your roots.

Lionel: [It's a big deal ] When the governor of your state says "Party with a Hardy"

Madison’s crowd isn’t as huge as Laine’s.

Madison Vandenburg

Her second song is Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway". She screams her way through it.

This reminds me of my old friend Wolfstar. I hope she's doing well.

Luke: So you finally tackled the Kelly Clarkson. So impressive.

Lionel: (Reminisces about his own homecoming many years ago to Alabama--DESTROY HIM! screams Alyssa Milano) As far as your father is concerned, you've made it.

Katie: Continue and nurture and grow this gift you have. Keep this work ethic. You're gong to fly so far.

Sneaking in a tea commercial during the program.

Rush Limbaugh would be proud.

Alejandro Aranda

Alejandro's homecoming has to be one of the most inexpensive in Idol history. He hops on a train to Pomona and there he is.

Sheesh, stop crying.

Well, I was wrong about crowd size. This is pretty impressive, but they're all corralled in front of the stage. Looks like just as many people as Laine's crowd.

This excitement is followed by another Alejandro original!

Lionel: Throughout this entire process we have watched you try to identify to your home. Welcome home, my friend. Welcome to your heart.

Katy: Such a pleasure to live in the same lifetime with you. You bring original music. You raise the stakes even higher.

Luke: Such a beautiful moment for you. Playing your music your way is so tough to do.
