Track Your Chicken's Whereabouts Before Eating It: With GPS & Face Recognition
National Public Radio ^ | February 24, 2019 | Martha Ann Overland

It's not as absurd as it sounds, says Robyn Metcalfe, a food historian who teaches at the University of Texas at Austin. A GPS tracker strapped to the leg of a chicken, says Metcalfe, means "that people who potentially will buy that chicken will know every step that that chicken has taken." ZhongAn Online, a Chinese insurance company, has already outfitted more than a 100,000 chickens with trackers. The sensors upload information, such as how much exercise each chicken gets and what it ate. They are also working on facial-recognition technology so that consumers can one day make sure the organic chicken they saw on the farm is the same one that ends up on their plate.

True, that age-old question would be answered! But we might find out our chicken was roadkill. Gross!

When I was a kid up in Rome, we ate rabbit road kill more than once. We'd pile into the back of the pickup and Dad would drive to the old rock store. On the way back there is a fresh kill. Fresh because it wasn't there on the way out. Not so gross! Just country living in rural Georgia.

But that was a choice. Involuntarily eating roadkill is just not right somehow lol!

My dad was a West Virginia country boy and talked about eating rabbit and squirrel from the time he could remember - and they made gravy with the pan drippings! He said it was delicious but the thought leaves me feeling slightly green :-/

Colin the Chicken from Portlandia?

LOL! That's exactly the skit I was thinking of, one of the show's better ones.

” Chinese insurance company”

The power of totalitarians.

Now you know why the country uses those “social credits”. Their human movements are being substituted for chicken ones to make it look like the critters are free range.

My wife will be mighty pissed when she sees the chicken in that frying pan was sneaking out behind the barn for smokes with the girls. So much for Free Range. She’ll slap those little bastards back into their little cages faster than you can say Cock-a-doodle-parmesan.

So now they are going to butcher the chicken and leave the head so you can know it is your chicken?

When I was in Africa, the feet were left on so you knew at least WHAT it was.

If you can do it with chickens and cattle, you can do it with humans too.

Forcibly, if they are disarmed.

That will answer once and for all why it crossed the road.

Hope to have an answer to that question very soon. I’m close to buying a Perdue chicken farm in Delaware that processes six flocks a year, 40,000 birds per flock.

Someone should tell the dingbat that the feet are cut off when butchered.
................................
Hell, you can buy packages of chicken feet right out of the display cases at Walmart. They’re usually right next to the gizzards and the livers!

Organic, my a$$. What a bunch of chicken sh*t. Some things things are best unknown...like what’s really in the chicken nuggets at fast food joints. Maybe that’s where the feet, heads, bones, etc. get processed along with the other undesirables.

Growing up on Agony Acres, all we had to eat for meat was chicken, chicken, and more chicken, which is why (as an adult) I don’t eat much chicken unless it’s BBQed or fried, and only then if I can recognize the edible parts - breast, thighs, legs, wings, etc.

I guess that makes me a racist...

As if a chicken isn’t miserable enough in a pen, some idiot thinks a penned bird needs to drag around a big clunky tracking device to record the tight circles the bird makes in the enclosure?
