Flip phones, also 'feature phones', are actually more than enough for the majority of people.

They do phone calls, texting, and a bit of internet browsing.

The 'smartphone' took off because of the touch features and bigger screens, and a few other 'useful' features. But, for the most part, what people use their smartphones for, can still be done on flip phones; even YOU don't need a smartphone for most of what you do.
