High profile tort lawyers dont take retainers. They front the costs and take a percentage of the recovery. I suspect that just prepping the documents and serving all the defendants is going to cost at least $25,000.
They willfully and maliciously slandered and libeled a child. They invaded his privacy and probably ruined his life.
These scumbags are gonna pay.
“lawyers do not work for free.”
Many do, and often. Sometimes it’s because the firm has a policy of associates taking on pro bono cases when clients can’t afford an attorney, and I don’t think that applies here. Sometimes it’s because an attorney is so dedicated to a cause that’s he’s happy to give his time and resources. In the Covington case, I expect that Wood, et al., will be paid based on how much is recovered.
“Many parties on that list are not shielded (to a degree) by any ‘press’ exceptions.”
Lawyers weighing in on this have said that the press isn’t shielded when the target is under 18, and even less when they’re being blatantly malicious to the child. (Not an attorney.)
Good list. And published on the Internet no doubt.
Easy to find “Fake News” organizations list. Will it mean anything to them? Probably not. But, they will have the spotlight on them for a few days.
Small point, but Baltimore is an archdiocese. Archbishop Lori and all.
I saw an interview with the DA for this county. He was investigating and building cases, criminal, against individuals also. Civil is nice but criminal is dandy.
The same slander that the SlimeMedia used against Judge Kavanaugh, they use against innocent teens. It was a kangaroo court and the SlimeMedia was the court.
Jim Carrey, lol.
If I was the Covington kids’ lawyer, I’d do everything possible to get him on the stand. He’s a raving, drooling lunatic.
And I’d make sure there were cameras in the courtroom, too.
Michael Moore?
In this video of this thread (if it hasn’t been scrubbed yet), Pelosi describes exactly how they lie, then smear, their opponents:

Any settlement will allow the leftist bullies a chance to get away without offering a real apology.
Unfortunately, the kids’ lawyers will be looking at some bottom line, likely their own.
Yep, but they will be looking to pay without actually apologizing.
I pray you’re right! I want each one of these people to pay a ton of money, and I want it to be such an astounding amount that everyone will think twice about opening their yaps and lying in the future.
And you’re right; it seems that nobody is reporting this. “Why?” you ask ... they have no clue HOW to report it. If they trivialize the suits it’ll require bashing the kids more, and they’ll be doing what they’re being sued for doing. If they report it seriously, they’ll fall out of favor with their evil cronies. Kind of funny, when you think about it.
Either it just rained or it is about to rain? Since you would probably know if it rained or not, it is still probably about to rain.
The fact this scum went after minors makes it exponentially easier to get a payday and hopefully a whimpering apology. There are special laws against defaming a minor, non-public figure.
These arrogant twits need to learn a lesson and get hit in their thick wallets.
Calm down everyone. Its me, jhavenfarm, who always tries to talk everyone off the filing a lawsuit = winning the lottery ledge. The essence of a defamation action is the collection of damages for the ongoing damage to ones reputation. A plaintiff in any case is required to mitigate his damages, that is, to lessen the amount. Full and unequivocal retractions and apologies must be sought and, if given, essentially defuses the claim as against the person who gives them. These plaintiffs do have a leg up in that they are not public figures so New York Times v Sullivan does not apply: they dont have to prove that those who spoke about them knew the statements were false, just that they statements were false
Close...
IMNSHO, it means half of them don’t know what they are ‘talking’ about....
You seem to forget about punitive damages. This was not negligence. It was a willful and malicious disregard of the facts with an intent to harm.
The kids dont have to mitigate anything or even prove damages beyond a dollar. And these defendants cant go bankrupt on punitive damages.
