A diversion this morning since I just came in from shoveling, humming this tune.
Blu, (you getting lake-effect still?) thought you’d appreciate this...from Michigan’s own Glenn Frey.
Shoveler’s Blues
Theres snow out on the street tonight
The cold is in my bones
I had a premonition,
That I would be pushing soon.
I knew the snow was heavy
But I didn’t think itd kill.
Opened the garage door
And the wind swept in a chill
So sonny, here’s your shovel,
Put the handle in your hand.
Im holdin your allowance now,
Do it just the way we planned.
Youll be pushin a few hours
And I’ll pay you plenty, man..
I’m sorry it went down like this,
And someone had to lose,
It’s the nature of the winter,
It’s the shovelers blues.
Shoveler’s Blues
The city and the county,
The neighbors little kids,
The pay offs and the slip-ups,
And the nomads hurried bids.
No matter if it’s snow or ice,
That driveways coming clean
You’ve got to push that shovel
Cause you think your mom is mean
The plows are run by government,
Piling up the slush
You ask any D. P. W. Man,
He’ll say There’s nothin’ we cant move,
From the office of the Mayor,
Right down to me and you, me and you.
It’s a losing proposition,
But one you can’t refuse.
It’s the politics of falling snow,
It’s the shovelers blues,
Shovelers blues.
- With apologies to GLENN LEWIS FREY, JACK TEMPCHIN
Cletus, the Shoveler’s Blues was awesome! Oh yea, the lake effect is strong with this storm. All the schools in about a 7 county area are closed...which works out well for me. The reserves got called in to shovel me out and haul wood..grandson just hops on the snowmobile and heads to my house. I love this sh**!
