No “prison” optics.
It's very common for the defendant to appear in street clothes for all (except arraignment) court proceedings. That way, the defendant doesn't "appear" guilty and bias the jury - although how some of them think they can throw a suit and tie on and the jury is gonna ignore all the tats and cuts and bruises...somehow, most of our juries saw right thru the tie (which I think was the jail's community tie...shared!)
