My thought is that they were going overseas to trash POTUS (may re-election be upon him) and the USA.

I have a little tickle at the back of my brain saying the family was going to party in Europe, on our dime, while the players took a side trip to A'stan, etc. for some skullduggery.  The kinfolk entourage was just a cover for the extracurricular stuff.
