Netflix is raising its U.S. prices by 13 percent to 18 percent, its biggest increase since the company launched its streaming service 12 years ago.
Its most popular plan will see the largest hike, to $13 per month from $11. That option offers high-definition streaming on up to two different internet-connected devices simultaneously. Even at the higher price, that plan is still a few dollars cheaper than HBO, whose streaming service charges $15 per month.
The extra cash will help to pay for Netflix's huge investment in original shows and films and finance the heavy debt it has assumed to ward off rivals such as Amazon, Disney and AT&T.

Don't forget the expensive talent they hired. A May, 2018 Netflix news release:
"President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for Netflix, potentially including scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features."
“Their DVD rental, OTOH, is quite extensive.”

That’s what I subscribed to back in the day - 2 out at a time. I dunno if their DVD rental offerings has gotten bad, I just checked out the streaming-only offerings.
I enjoy foreign, obscure, cult, classic, shorts and little-known gem movies and pre-2005 (approx) TV. Not much in that way in the streaming service.
Maybe they have to make up the loss from people (like me) that cancelled their subscription when they started giving money to the Obamas.
TV shows are nice. Mostly old network TV shows.
Movies not so much.
Agreed. But at $50/mo I’d drop it. Sling is marginally overpriced at $30 per mo. If Sling raises it anymore, we’ll drop it.
I don’t have Netflix but want to see the occasional (old) movie. What is HULU? Do I have to pay for that?
“Stay away for this filth!”
I avoid Netflix productions for that reason.
We can ignore the things we don’t want to watch.
$13 per month is cheap entertainment.
It’s entertainment. They can charge whatever they want.
You pay extra for multiple devices
I did too but I went back
Too many shows I like
Some very well. Done
Like narcos and last kingdom etc
I love hulu and yes it is a streaming channel just like netflix, but with more quality stuff.
With commercials you can get it for $6/month I believe.
If you are streaming there is a free movie channel for roku that has great stuff.
When enough Netflix subscribers don't watch a particular show, it gets cancelled.
Having Obama on board doesn't have anything to do with the overall content or political leanings of Netflix itself.
Netflix is a fantastic deal. For $13 a month, I get to watch hundreds of films and TV shows and documentaries instantly without getting ripped off by cable or video rental stores.

> So don’t watch the Obama produced crap then. <
I’m just pokin’ fun at Netflix. I actually don’t think Obama will produce anything there. It’ll be just like how Chelsea Clinton was at NBC. Paid big bucks for doing, well, nothing.
People are sharing their passwords with others. That is the practice Netflix wants to stop.
The whole Netflix on-demand streaming model (also done well by Amazon Prime, Hulu and others) really appeals to me. They are going to be the death of cable television and its 300 channels of commercial-filled noise.
I realize not everything is on Netflix but there's enough on it that appeals to me that I will never run out of content to watch - even if I didn't have a full time job.
What I hate is that Netflix went into debt to purchase the debt of cable companies who merged their debt with their past debt and raised prices. A significant portion of the original cable company license debt was sold in deprecated junk bonds. Bottom line is these price increases hide this house of debt cards, and causes inflation.
Everything Obama touches turns to crap.
I just re signed up
They verify devices
If your pal has your password and is watching Netflix then they can only do that while you are signed off
To have multiple users on same account you pay for it
I think its three tiered from single to several to multiple
I cant say I blame Netflix on this one
