I enlisted at 18, too. By then, I didn’t consider myself a child. But still, even at age 40 I remained one of my parents’ children. One is always a parent’s child but not a child for any other purpose once a certain age is reached.
It’s peculiar, but there you are. Maybe parental product should be called offspring or crotch fruit and childhood should end at an agreed-upon age.
