A 22-year-old newly-hired employee was attacked and killed by a lion after it escaped a locked space at a North Carolina animal center on Sunday, officials said.
A "husbandry team, led by a professionally trained animal keeper, was carrying out a routine enclosure cleaning" at the Conservators Center in Burlington when a lion left the locked space, went into the area where the humans were and killed Alexandra Black, the Caswell County Sheriffs Office said in a statement.
Black, 22, from New Palestine, Indiana, had recently graduated from Indiana State University and had worked at the Conservator Center for about two weeks, the sheriff's office said. She was also a college intern, the sheriff's office added.

Everybody thinks those big cats are so cute and cuddly......they ain’t !! They’re killers, it’s what they do in the wild. Why would you think they want to cuddle just because they’re in a cage.
Someone violated a safety procedure.
Hows about this. A newbie employee was sent in the cage to shovel lion sh!t while all other animal experts were on their phones and lion was not secured.
Always stay with the herd.
Most animals kill to eat. Cats kill for fun.
It appears none of the keepers were armed.
Makes more sense than her carrying a gun. I also doubt the damn lion ate her and the only gun needed is too shoot the expert trainer idiot. Figbys FUps
NC doesn’t have secure elections either.
In the future, place local stories in chat

I don’t post articles, but that request makes no sense.
.
Here's a rather strange MST3K narrated short of some guy sent to the Everglades to catch animals for the zoo.
Well, General/Chat does have a “Local News” topic that can be selected. But you lose access to the state tabs.
Im curious too. I thought it was a story from ABC. Loved the comment comparing NC election security to the idiots at the zoo. Thought it was entirely correct.
There’s not a lot of anything in Caswell County, it’s a sort of sad old place with lots of beautiful farmland, a few old towns that seem to be depopulating and a decent sized recreational lake up on the VA border. That’s about it. If I were looking for a large acreage of nice rolling farmland or timber for cheap that’s not too far removed from airports and city conveniences, it would be a great place. Kind of close to a lot of stuff, but everything’s at least an hour away. Kind of like Cullowhee once was, come to think of it. I had no idea there were any sort of exotic animals there either.
I love Larson!!! Thanks for this!
