Chromium is open source, so there's at least a chance that any evil in the software itself can be identified and purged.
No such luck with the company itself, of course.
May I suggest:
Check out the browser Vivaldi. It is developed by the Norwegian team that used to work on Opera, before Opera was sold to Chinese company Qihoo (which is why I don’t used it).
Vivaldi is very fast, not a memory hog, and has a TON of features. And, it is built on the free Chromium engine.
So far—a couple of weeks—I like it a lot better than Chrome, Firefox, or (no contest) Edge.
