When Alabama football and the Oklahoma Sooners meet up in Orange Bowl Saturday, a lot of different things could happen that could shift the favor of the game to either team. Check out some Bama Hammer staff, bold predictions for the game.
Will Bama pull out stops? How good will Oklahomas offense actually be? What could Alabama football do to really shift the game in their favor? In the world of college football, these are questions that can only be answered on the field. However, Lauri Springer, from the BH writing staff, and I took a crack at predicting what wild and crazy statistic or event will occur in Miami Saturday night.
Lets start off easy:
Alabama will call Hurts in the fourth quarter
As leaky as Oklahomas defense is, there is a very good chance that Alabama could run up the score on Oklahoma if their offense turns out to be a non-starter. Tua has said that he will be 100 percent by game time and there isnt much reason to doubt that. Its been some time since weve seen him toss touchdowns like they were thrown rolls at Lamberts Cafe.
So, it stands to reason that we will get to see the man who saved Alabamas SEC Championship in Jalen Hurts. If Tua is 100 percent like he says he is, its not likely well see Jalen before then. Hurts has his day and will score a touchdown or two more once Alabama has put the Sooners away.
While we dont see Jalen leading the offense early, we do expect to see more than a couple of plays with both Jalen and Tua in the game, long before the fourth quarter.
Nick Saban will open up the playbook
We think old Saint Nick is going to bring out all the stops for the Orange Bowl showdown versus Oklahoma. He is known to use some trick plays in big games. I expect Tua to light up the field against the Oklahoma secondary, but I think the world might momentarily stop if Locksley pulls a deep route using Jalen Hurts. The duo would solidify their place in Alabama football history books and the heart of every fan if a Tua to Jalen deep ball is executed for a touchdown. I can hear the Eli Gold call now.
Well see a big man touchdown
A Tua to Quinnen Williams in the edge of the end zone, like the Hurts to Payne touchdown in the Clemson game last year, is a distinct possibility. Quinnen Williams doesnt have the opportunity to score often, so lets send him out of the season with a bang.
Oklahoma will turnover the ball three times
Turnovers could spell disaster for either team, but three turnovers from the Oklahoma offense will be game-ending with an opportunistic defense like Alabamas. Two of those turnovers will come as interceptions from Kyler Murray. The other will come as a lost fumble with the Heisman Trophy winner coughing up the football in a most un-Heisman-like manner.
Finally
Alabama Football will hang 60 (or more) on Oklahoma
There is some precedent for this. Alabama has hung 62 before on Ole Miss earlier this season. While Ole Miss shouldnt be used as a benchmark for the entire Oklahoma team, there is a common thread between the two: defense. The porous Ole Miss defense allows almost everything to go undefended and Oklahomas has been known to do the same. Oklahoma isnt ready for Alabamas offense and its going to cause them to give up 60+ on the scoreboard.
For multiple reasons, not the least of which is Saban is too classy to do it, no one on the Tide staff will say in the post-game we coulda run up 60 on em.
Fate favors the bold, or so it is said. The Sooners are built to be constantly bold on offense. Boldness is not necessarily Nick Sabans greatest strength. We dont care who gets the bold award Saturday night as long as the Crimson Tide wins.
In this battle of gridiron bluebloods, this time the Tide wont be outgunned offensively. But can the Bama defense stop Kyler Murray and his offense?
Historically, Oklahoma has been the bane of the Alabama Crimson Tides existence.
In five previous meetings, the Tide has a single win. Thats one of the worst records in Alabamas long and storied history against a team it has played at least five times.
In the last discussion someone on this forum claimed the SEC had only 3 good teams.
I’ve seen all kinds of crap here. An Ohio State fan who was not “impressed” by Georgia or Alabama. Ohio State who got murdered by Purdue who got murdered by Auburn. That’s real championship material. Then there’s the Oklahomer who says their offense will put 60 on Bama. Game on. Do it. I’ll be the first to congratulate them.
Alabama wins by 41 points.
Go SEC. Go Bama.
We are graduates of Oklahoma State University and we agree...
O.U. SUX. HATE EM’
ACTUALLY hate OU fans. So obnoxious. 99% never went to. OU or a any college. They went to Walmart and bought an OU shirt!
I remember when we only had cassette tapes.... OU fans would record gameS, replay over and over ALL WEEK!
CAUSED MANY 1970s divorces. Not kidding. I grew up in Oklahoma ... got out of there asap
Proud Texan.

Bama wins by 84.
84 to 0
Line is still -14 Bama. Nobody is touching it so far, which means most bettors are good with the line
I’m primarily an Auburn fan who pulls for Bama when they are not playing Auburn.
I doubt that OK has seen defenses like Alabama. I don’t think Alabama can shut OK down completely. I look for OK to score 17 - 24 points.
Lack of defense is what will kill OK. My gut feeling is that Bama wins by about 2 -3 touchdowns. If you can’t pressure Tua into stressed throws, he will eat you alive. I think a key to the way the game goes is whether OK can pressure Tua. If they can, you will see Jalen Hurts by the second quarter. But Bama wins regardless
Most experts predict a high scoring game.
I will go against the grain and predict a “low” scoring game.
Alabama will defeat Oklahoma 31 - 17.
Alabama QB Coach Dan Enos Talks Jalen Hurts Maturation In Passing Game
“But can the Bama defense stop Kyler Murray and his offense?”
Murray will be carried out on a stretcher before the half.
I would love to see Jalen in this game.
“Then theres the Oklahomer who says their offense will put 60 on Bama. Game on. Do it.”
They could only put up 21 points on Army(in regulation) at home. Army held the them scoreless for the entire second half.
It’s going to be a blood bath for the sooners.
The SEC only has four good teams. Alabama is far and away the best. I won’t back up my ridiculous claim by naming the other four teams.
The local junior college offers a course in remedial math. Hint: 4+1 doesn't equal 4.
Have you run that by Purdue???
