I always had trouble with fudge, had a lot of chocolate hot fudge though.
A friend of mine in Utah told me this works every time and it sure does.
So easy.....
Three minute fudge.........I skip the nuts.
Oh and use a wooden spoon to beat it, recipe says rubber spatula but she told me to use a wooden spoon.

Yes, that's a very easy way...BUT the texture CottonBall wants won't come from microwave fudge. It will be too creamy and not crumbly. Its like the difference between a soft cookie and a crunchy cookie.
Let me think some on how your dad must have made the fudge....My mind has to go back to watching my mom make her peanut butter fudge....I believe she put the 3 cups of sugar on the stove/salt... with the milk and brought it to a boil...then turned it down to simmer...that could be when he put in the chips/peanut butter ...it was then safe to stir because it has gone through the boil stage....then when he took it off of the stove....he added the nutmeg and vanilla. The eggnog fudge sounds wonderful.

The original Jet-Puffed fudge recipe has never failed me. Do NOT use the recipe on today's jars. https://thesavvyage.com/original-fantasy-fudge-recipe-soft-food-recipe/ Original Fantasy Fudge Ingredients 3 cups sugar 3/4 cup butter or margarine 2/3 cup evaporated milk 2 cups semi chocolate chips (I used Tollhouse) 1 jar of marshmallow crème, Kraft jet puffed 7 oz. jar 1 tsp. vanilla Chopped nuts are optional Directions Grease a 9 X 13 pan. Alternative and much easier is to line a 9 X 13″ pan with parchment paper, this allows a much quicker release and clean up. In a medium pot, mix sugar, butter and milk. Bring the mixture to a full boil using medium heat, stirring constantly so the sugar dissolves and the mixture does not burn on the bottom of the pot. ** Boil for five minutes. This is important! Five minutes exactly !! Remove the thickened mixture from the heat and add chocolate chips. Add the marshmallow crème and vanilla. Add nuts if desired. Pour into the prepared pan to cool.
