If that means you have a stock investments that have tanked, I am sorry for you. I tend to sell out a bit early myself.

For example, in DEC. 2007, I wanted to take some profits, and was looking for some undervalued stocks for investment. I couldn’t find any. They were all over priced. So I sold half of my stocks and parked them in the brokerage account.

When the market crashed in 2008, I reinvested in some really cheap stocks, like Ford @$3/share. The next thing I did, since I’m older and need to preserve principle, is when the stocks doubled in value, I sold half - return of principle.

The rest I let ride and check it now and then to see if I want to rebalance or something. But this way, I always have money available to buy when the next crash hits, yet I have sufficient invested to meet my profit targets. YMMV

Next time I’m in Vegas can you sit next to me at the Baccarat table? If you don’t know the rules I’ll teach you. Your role be to give me stink eye when I’m about to bet poorly and don’t take winnings and set them aside.
