Maison Hullibarger’s father tells the Detroit Free Press that he asked the priest to stop talking during the Dec. 8 funeral Mass. But Jeff Hullibarger says the Rev. Don LaCuesta continued giving a critical sermon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Temperance.

Hullibarger says some mourners left the church crying.

The archdiocese released a statement Thursday saying it’s sorry that an “unbearable situation was made even more difficult.” The archdiocese says LaCuesta will not preach at funerals “for the foreseeable future.”

If he was a born-again Christian when he died then he is in Heaven. If he never had accepted Christ as his personal Savior then, no, no Heaven. Suicide is not a factor.

The priest was correct but didn’t have to say it.

The awkward headline could be interpreted as him killing himself at his own funeral, which sounds like time travel, or somethin’.

Family wanted a canonization and when they didn’t get it, they run to the press. Killing yourself is still a grave sin in the Church.

Iv got no problem with clocking the Padre, same as anyone else enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance. Especially at my families expense.

Reminds me of a story my Rabbi once told me. He was attending a funeral for a young child. The child’s mother had managed to keep it together most of the way through until the Minister said the child was in a better place. The mother completely lost it and started shrieking “A better place than with me? A better place than with me?”. He told me it was one of the most disturbing experiences of his career.

The Catechism accepts that suicide is not necessarily a mortal sin, and that there may be extenuating curcumstances, such as mental illness that may lead to it.

As an application, suicide may or may not be a sin, but cab anybody really show, Scripturally, that self harm is a sin?

From what I read, there isn’t much about when we self harm. Only others.

ALL of Scripture concerns YOU in terms of your LIFE. To not see anything in Scripture about self harm is a little like not seeing the forest on account of all those trees.

Again, back up the point of self harm being a sin.

Yes, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.

Anyway, I had to navigate the church after the suicide of a loved one. Its a minefield.

He killed himself at a funeral?...

That is what I thought but will a priest that kills himself at a funeral go to Heaven.

All that means is that you should live for God. It doesnt mean suicide.

This is an unanswerable question in Christianity.
