FWIW, last August, (Or possibly late July) POTUS did a tweet using the “Smocking” misspell. I could not find it.
It launched me on my first Laurel Canyon dive via Steve Allen, who made famous the hysterically funny scream, “SMOCK SMOCK!!!”

“SMOCKING” for some reason made me think of early days of the Tonight Show, one of which’s early shapers was Steve Allen. (I’ve seen accounts where he is given credit and some where Jack Paar is given credit. I’m neutral on the point.)
Allen used to crack up my entire family sometimes when he would launch into a loony tirade, hollering, “SMOCK SMOCK SMOCK!!” We really would roll on the floor laughing!
I did a search looking for any significant or relevant ties that Trump might have had with Steve Allen. However, I did find a few things which potentially pointed to why Trump might be referring to Steve Allen or pointing at him through the “SMOCK!ing” reference......”

Smock is a funny word. It sounds funny. If it’s applied to a garment, I don’t want to wear it. Smocks are literally by definition u.g.l.ee. The ones with snaps on the side that come to basically doublet length, with pockets in the front. There was a preacher name o’ Jed Smock who would go around to college campi in the late 70s and rail at the women for being jezebels and who-ers etc. etc. Smock. Smock Smock Smock.
