I haven’t the foggiest idea what electricity costs in Europe but gasoline is incredibly expensive...twice to three times what it costs here.It seems to me that electric cars might have a future in Europe.

Gasoline is expensive in Europe because of massive taxation. Once electric cars become more common, to the point of cutting gas tax revenue, expect them to be taxed.

Gasoline is taxed to death in Europe, but as we know, no one goes into tax collection out of a sense of public service. H.L. Mencken:
- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
- The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.
- The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else.
- The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.

Electric cars make a lot more sense in densely populated Western or Central Europe where distances are smaller - or in the Boston-Washington stretch of the USA. Electricity can be cheaper here once they get the continent-wide grid up so that solar power from Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece and wind power from the north sea can cover most of the continent’s energy needs.
