What is the difference between a colectomy and a colostomy? The main difference in a colectomy and a colostomy is that in a colectomy the large intestine is completely and irreversibly removed, and in a colostomy, the large intestine may have some part removed, but otherwise remains in place.

because a colonoscopy is no big deal. Just a test to check for cancer of the colon.
