So, they knowingly put out a failure.

More money than brains in Hollywood.

“they knowingly put out a failure.”

I don’t believe that for a second. Just an excuse for a dog of a show no one wanted to watch in the 1st place IMO. As far as being intended to be a closed-ended order of 13 episodes, if it was a hit I’m sure they woulda found a way to keep it on. I wonder if it’s up against the new last Man Standing sitcom. If so THAT would explain the decent into the dumper....not that they would ever admit it.

More money than brains in Hollywood/CBS’s liberals.

So, they knowingly put out a failure.

Because they planned a limited run?

British TV does that all the time and nobody faults them for it.

Some people are praise the Brits for quitting before they absolute have to.

Not everything has to run until people are sick of it.

In this case, people were sick of the show to begin with, so not trying to stretch its run out to eternity was a wise move.

It filled a hole for a while in a schedule of stuff that wasn't really much better or more original.

I doubt the replacement will last much longer - and that won't be intentional.
