The minimum acceptable size for a "real" dog is a beagle (e.g. Snoopy).
Any smaller than that and (see previous thread) you're in Occasional-Cortex territory:

Just heard of a local woman who unwisely let her Yorkie out of the house to relieve itself. Moments later she hears a car stop quickly, door slam, drives quickly off. Yorkie gone. :(
Soon to be advertised for a small “rehoming” fee, or another purpose I’d rather not mention. :(
