Many leaders do that. It does a couple of things, at least:
1> It insures that they get a precise, clear & accurate understanding regardless of their skill in the other language.

2. It gives the image that they are standing up for their own language and culture by being loyal to it as much as workable. i.e. not kowtowing to the foreign language and the foreign leader..

Seems as though Trump wants Melania and Barron to have as much regular private life as possible. Means we don’t see much of them, which is good for them!

Not so.

It's a nice place to hole up, build your horde, and then come busting out into Asia. Trouble with the Australia strategy is, You only get two pieces per turn for it (as I remember) and other more aggressive empires gain more pieces per turn until they can win a war of attrition, invade your lands, and hear the lamentations of your women.

And that is why Australia will never take over the world.

Absolutely so. In fact, after the inhabitant of Australia had won five times in a row, we were forced to connect Eastern Australia to Argentina so it could be attacked from more than one direction.
