A wounded veteran is sounding off on a study that found some students are exhibiting symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder following the 2016 election.
The study, which was released Monday by the Journal of American College Health, evaluated 769 students at Arizona State University studying psychology in January and February 2017. About 25 percent of respondents reported symptoms of PTSD because Donald Trump won the election.
“What we were interested in seeing was, did the election for some people constitute a traumatic experience? And we found that it did for 25 percent of young adults,” said lead author Melissa Hagan, an assistant professor of psychology at San Francisco State University.
Joey Jones, a retired Marine Corps bomb technician who lost both of his legs in a bomb blast while serving in Afghanistan, took issue with the survey's findings.

What a resounding smack in the face to those who genuinely do suffer the hell on earth that is PTSD in all of its various permutations.
Heroes in combat, crime victims, accident survivors, first responders, partners of domestic abusers, the list is long. Everyone has a different threshold. A child merely *observing* the abuse of another may be severely traumatized.
It has taken decades to get the psychological community to recognize post traumatic stress. There was debate some time back about whether it should be more properly be labeled “post traumatic stress syndrome”. It should.
Being mindful of the high suicide rate among veterans, which we know is underreported, even Fake News could strive to be a bit more responsible.

This PTSD stuff is going too far. It should be reined in to applying only to combat vets and severe trauma cases such as rape.
I have a 68 year old acquaintance that is massively in debt and trying to get PTSD money from the VA from the first sand box war. His stressor is a scud missile flew over their camp. It landed miles away. That’s it. He claims night mares from it and all the other symptoms.
I bet over half the people claiming PTSD are faking it and the shrinks are helping out by agreeing with them.
When Clinton won, I printed up a sign that said “Only 1456 more days” and got a lot of laughs out if it.
My mom’s husbands granddaughter actually brought Pla-Do to his family Christmas party. She’s in college.
